You are looking at the future of New York city mainstream rap, well, aside from Maino. Fans of BAMZ, Chinx, Troy, and Mack Wilds all know how great of a year these guys had with a number of their singles and projects being mentioned by music critics, loves and fans abroad. This collective was formed by Cipha Sounds and Drewski, both DJ’s on Hot 97 for #theMVMT. The goal of #theMVMT is to, “bring that golden era of hip-hop sound back to the mainstream.” The flood gates have opened, and it’s time that all these artists outside of New York respect the grounds, which birthed the culture that places food on their plates.
As part of the first installment Cipha Sounds and Drewski put together a super studded roster. Staten Islands own, Mike Cash from Electric Bodega, handled the production on the record, flipping the sample from Pun & Noreaga’s “Banned From TV,” adding a deep bass-line, high-hats, and a few underlying layers.
